McKenzie Key, Benton High School senior, has been selected the 2008 Football Jamboree Queen. The jamboree queen is selected annually by the Benton Tiger football team. McKenzie will be presented at halftime of the jamboree game on Friday, August 29. You can get your first look at the 2008 Benton Tigers as they open play next Friday night at Airline Stadium in the annual Lion’s Club Bossier Parish Jamboree. Everyone is invited to come out and support McKenzie and the Tigers.
 
Tiger Tech Receives $1,000 Donation

The BHS Engineering Club, Tiger Tech, received a $1,000 donation from Benton residents and Tiger grandparents Ray and Marcia Nelson.  The club will use the funds to support activities in the 2008-2009 school year, which will include hosting the 2nd Annual Northwest Louisiana Autonomous Robotics Competition for area high schools.  Tiger Tech will also purchase sensors and other hardware and software to augment existing robotics platforms at Benton. With Henderson twins returning for senior season, Benton is the team to beat in 1-4A

A year ago, the big question in District 1-4A football was how Benton High would adjust to its first season in the state’s second highest classification. At the end of a 12-2 season marred only by an overtime loss to Haughton and a playoff loss to state champion Bastrop, there were no more doubts about the Tigers’ ability to compete at the higher level. They were ranked No. 6 in the final sports writers’ poll lastyear. Coach Mitch Downey’s team goes into its second Class 4A football season as the District 1-4A favorite. Two of the biggest reasons for this are the Henderson twins, 220-pound fullback Casey Henderson and 210-pound defensive tackle Corey Henderson. Read more...
