We have had a super beginning to the second semester of the 2006-2007 School Year!  We even had a shortened day due to some inclement weather, even though the weather was not as bad as anticipated.  One of my goals this school year was to visit every classroom in all of our schools and I’ve accomplished that goal.  I am truly amazed at the skills our teachers and students display every day.  We are certainly blessed to have such dedicated professionals in our classrooms who instruct our students.  I also visited with our support personnel, secretarial staff, para-professionals, custodians, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, etc. at each school.  They have done an outstanding job of complementing the roles of our teachers and administrators.  We are thankful for everyone in our Bossier Parish family.
Three of our students have been selected as Bossier Parish Students of the Year.  Congratulations to Emily Semanco, a 5th grader at Stockwell Place Elementary School, Taylor Haynie, an 8th grader at Haughton Middle School, and Alexander Parmater, a 12th grader at Benton High School.  We wish them our best as they compete for Regional Student of the Year and, hopefully, State Student of the Year honors.
As I stated earlier, I was privileged to visit in all our classrooms, and I got several different reactions, especially from our younger students.  My visit to Sun City Elementary School, a K-3 school, was close to the Christmas Holidays.  Mr. Melancon, the principal there, called for me over the intercom and several teachers said their students got excited because “Rudolph” was in the building.  Kids are great!  And they really know who and what is important!
