ImageTwo of the eleven students from Caddo and Bossier Parishes selected to participate in the SMART program were from Benton High:  Janee Greer and Alexander Parmater. The S.M.A.R.T. Program (Science & Medicine Academic Research Training) is a partnership of the Biomedical Research Foundation, LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport and Caddo/ Bossier Parish school systems.  The field of biotechnology in medicine is booming and the S.M.A.R.T. program provides a unique opportunity for these highly motivated high school seniors to learn.

Janee and Alexander will be mentored by a PhD researcher, working in the laboratory forty hours per week for seven weeks in the summer and at least ten hours per week during the school year. At the completion of the course, these two Benton students earn two science elective credits for high school as well as countless hours of training in top notch, local research facilities.  Science teacher Carol Wade sponsored the two Benton students.
