Fall is probably my favorite time of the year. Cooler weather is beginning to be much more prevalent and most people just feel better when it gets cooler. Football is in full swing and, in fact, our high schools will have played half their regular season by October 1st!
We will be recognizing our Teachers of the Year at our October 5, 2006, School Board Meeting which will be held at the Bossier Civic Center. We are most fortunate to have outstanding teachers in our school system, and I would encourage parents to get to know their student(s)’ teachers. The home-to-school and school-to-home connection is so very important in a student’s academic success. Our building program is steadily moving forward. The classroom wing at Benton High School is progressing very well. The new classroom wing at Haughton High School is in the final stages of design and should be ready to bid shortly. Land for W. T. Lewis Elementary School and the new Parkway High School has been purchased. The purchase of the property for Legacy Elementary School has been delayed due to a problem with the sewer system. I believe this issue can be resolved and we can move forward with building this school. Our architects have continued their design work despite the delays and we are still on schedule to construct these schools as originally planned. I would like to take this opportunity to express some personal thoughts, if I may. Our family is so thankful for the many prayers and expressions of concern for our daughter, Kelly, and her ordeal with breast cancer. We have gotten excellent reports and the most recent report from her visit to M. D. Anderson was most positive. God is so good, and we’re blessed to be a part of the Bossier Parish School System family. |
