Benton High School SACS Accreditation Self-Study Report

 Benton High School went through the Southern Association of College and Schools Accreditations (SACS) during the 2004-2005 school year.  At the completion of the process the school was observed by the SACS Peer Review Team which gave full accredidation Benton High School.  The following report was created and complied by Benton High Teachers, Administrators, and Staff for the accreditation process.  NOTE: This is not the complete report (all graphs/charts are not included) - if you would like to view the complete report you can download  in the following .pdf file Also, a complete list of Louisiana accrediated school can be found here(.pdf) .

The Action Plan Committee received reports from the School Profile Committee, the Beliefs and Mission Committee, the Priorities for Improving Student Learning Committee and the Priorities for Improving School Performance Committee. The reports were based on analysis of test results for Benton High School students and on analysis of surveys which canvassed Benton High School stakeholders. The School Profile Committee gathered this data for analysis. The Action Plan Committee subsequently developed goal statements and action steps designed to address the two major areas of weakness identified in these committee reports.

 

Research from test scores documented that students at Benton High School need to improve their level of achievement in math. Research from the surveys indicated that more parental involvement is an area in need of attention in order to improve the total education program at Benton High School. The Action Plan Committee designed goals to address these two areas of weakness specifically. For each goal, the committee collaborated to define goal statements that will not only address the identified weaknesses, but will also build and strengthen Benton’s instructional and organizational effectiveness. While some action steps are relatively new, others will improve upon successful strategies that are already in place in the school.

 

The completed draft of the goals was presented to the Benton administration and committee chairpersons; the final draft was presented to the Benton faculty for approval. It was also posted on the website for viewing by all other stakeholders with a request for comments.

 

On the following pages, the two goals for Benton High School are outlined. Included are goal statements and an objective for each goal. Action steps for each goal are charted along with a proposed timeline, list of resources, list of persons responsible for each step, and methods of evaluation.
