SUMMARY OF PRIORITIES FOR IMPROVING SCHOOL PERFORMANCE

Benton High School’s varied curriculum choices afford students and teachers a number of ways to address the school’s limitations and promote better utilization of resources. A strong and diverse curriculum and a highly qualified faculty provide the school with the opportunity to achieve its mission as a secondary school that is constantly striving to grow and improve. Some limitations may be easily corrected while others may require a great deal more time and effort. Benton has always been a school in which student learning has been a priority. The challenge of meeting these goals and strengthening the academic environment should include the following:

• student learning becomes a collaborative effort in which students and teachers work together to make learning more meaningful
• increased effort is required to encourage students to assume more responsibility for their actions relating to academic affairs
• instructional support for student learning beyond the classroom is provided so students perform better academically
• a stronger collaborative network of support for student learning is built by extending the school community.
  

PRIORITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT

 To build upon and expand the school’s strengths:

• Continue to enhance the curriculum to meet the learning needs of students.
• Continue to hold high expectations for student achievement by providing a variety of resources to aid in learning.
• Continue to maintain a quality educational learning climate and to actively support teaching and learning.
• Continue to monitor and annually update the results of the School Improvement Plan.

To address limitations and areas in need of improvement:

• Continue to focus on helping students improve their skills in reflecting and evaluating what they have learned in order to improve their standardized test scores.
• To continue to work on increasing the involvement of parents.
