SUMMARY OF LIMITATIONS AND SUPPORTING EVIDENCE

A lack of communication exists between parents and the school. (Principle #10, page 32 of the Louisiana School Improvement Process Handbook, Fourth Edition 2003)

Data:

  • Most parents do not provide help to their child with his/her school work
  • Most teachers do not recognize the parents of their students.
  • Most parents are not involved in school-supported activities.

Rationale:

  • It is one of the Benton Tiger Beliefs that education is a partnership shared by home, school, and community.
  •  Recognition of parents by teachers both inside and outside the school environment leads to better communication and thus a heightened awareness of student performance.
  • Another Benton Tiger Belief is that opportunities and situations must be provided to exhibit school pride and community spirit thereby enhancing the morale of both school and community.
