The Graduate Exit Exam (GEE21) consists of a battery of criterion-referenced tests that include science, social studies, mathematics, and English/language arts. The charts on pages 3-29 and 3-30 indicate the percentages of students scoring at all achievement levels. As shown in the attached tables, the percentage of students in English receiving unsatisfactory increased from 2001 until 2003 but decreased slightly in 2004. In mathematics, the percentage of those receiving unsatisfactory decreased dramatically from 2001 until 2003, but the percentage increased in 2004 even though the number of students receiving unsatisfactory decreased. A significant observation in the area of mathematics is that more students scored in the advanced category than in any other subject area tested; therefore, the area of mathematics represents both extreme highs and lows. In science, the percentage of students receiving unsatisfactory increased slightly from 2002 to 2003, but decreased greatly in 2004. In social studies, the percentage of students receiving unsatisfactory has decreased each year from 2002 until 2004.

On our annual School Report Card, Benton High’s School Performance Score (SPS), (based on LEAP 21/GEE 21, the Iowa Tests, student attendance and dropout data), has increased each year since 2001-2002. Our most recent SPS was 104.8. Our SPS increased 3.1 points from last year. Our school is a Three-Star *** school and is eligible for a monetary reward this year. Our ten-year goal is 100, which we have already surpassed (p. 3-31).
