Benton rolls past Parkway for a perfect 9-0 season |

It may have been the third time Benton Coach Mitch Downey has gone undefeated in the regular season, but you could tell Friday night was a little more special. The No. 3-ranked Tigers hit Parkway with its 1-2 punch of Casey Henderson and Brandon Adams as Benton wrapped up the District 1-4A championship with a 35-15 victory over Parkway. Benton rolled through the 1999 and 2004 regular season with no losses, but the Tigers were in Class 3A. "It is very difficult to go undefeated," Benton Coach Mitch Downey said. "It is hard to play at that level every game. They (Parkway) have a good team and they are well coached. We had to work for everything we got." Benton (9-0, 7-0), which shared the district title a year ago with Haughton and Parkway, got 172 yards rushing from Henderson. The 5-10, 230-pounder had a workhorse 27 carries while the fleet Adams chipped in 85 yards and two touchdowns. |
