Benton's Casey Henderson rushed for touchdowns of 33, 43 and 88 yards in the first half as the No. 3-ranked Tigers remained undefeated, handling Fair Park, 48-13, at Independence Stadium on Thursday night. Benton (8-0, 6-0) wasted little time in taking the lead in the game. On the Tigers' first possession, Henderson, a senior fullback, exploded through the Indians defense for a 33-yard touchdown. A missed extra point attempt left Benton's lead at 6-0. Benton's offense was back in business a few plays later when Fair Park quarterback Morris Claiborne was intercepted by Jeff Lang at the Benton 46. Two plays later, Henderson again burst through the heart of the Fair Park defense — this time for a 43-yard touchdown. Brandon Adams outraced the Indians defense to the right goal-line marker for the 2-point conversion and a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Fair Park's defense finally stopped Benton's potent running game by bringing a safety up to the line of scrimmage and shooting gaps at the snap, catching Tigers running backs for losses. After the punt, Fair Park, relying almost exclusively on Claiborne, started moving the ball from its 22. After runs by Claiborne and running back Kenneth Young moved the ball to the 36, Claiborne, on a great play-action fake raced up the field for a 64-yard touchdown to cut Benton's lead to 14-7. |
