Three touchdown runs by Benton running back Casey Henderson helped give the Tigers a 50-25 District 1-4A victory over Northwood on Thursday night. "He is a very talented running back and he played well," Benton head coach Mitch Downey said. "It just wasn't him though. The offensive line blocked well and the entire backfield ran hard and was able to find holes." Benton (6-0, 4-0) played good defense and ran the ball well, carrying it 16 times for 189 yards in the first half to give itself a 23-0 halftime lead. The Tigers also had four runs of more than 20 yards, which included a 55-yard scamper by quarterback Mark Harrington. Benton's special teams also came up big, as they blocked a punt in the end zone for a safety. On the ensuing offensive possession, the Tigers scored their second touchdown as Brandon Adams ran in from 8 yards out. On the opening drive of the game, Northwood quarterback Josh Jones had a wide-open receiver down the middle of the field, but the ball bounced in and out of the hands of Jessie Ward. To open the second half, Harrington completed his first pass of the evening to Cameron McKoy for 20 yards. The Tigers didn't stick to the air for long, as they ran the ball three times. This time, Henderson carried it 18 yards for his second touchdown of the evening. |
