Benton student qualifies for texas high school rodeo state finals Print E-mail

Benton High School sophomore, Stillman Johnson (Heeler), along with his Team Roping Partner, Will Gehrmann (Header) from Nacogdoches, Texas placed second in their Team Roping Event on Saturday at the Texas High School Rodeo Region V Finals which qualifies them to compete in the Texas High School Rodeo State Finals June 13 – 22, 2008 in Abilene, Texas.

The Texas High School Rodeo Association is made up of Ten (X) Regions approximately 1300 members with Region Five (V) being the largest with 218 members. Region V awarded $20,000 in Scholarships during its Annual Regional Awards Banquet. The state association will award $100,000 in Scholarships during its State Awards Banquet in June.

Johnson began his rodeo career at the age of six (6) competing in local Youth Rodeo Events. Johnson’s past awards include Champion Sheep Rider, Champion Goat Flipping, Champion Calf Roping and All Around Cowboy 2001 with the Northwest Louisiana Youth Rodeo Association. He has placed in several USTRC Team Roping Events and currently maintains a 3.4 GPA at Benton High School.
