Two labs are for specific class use and the other is a math lab, obtained through an 8(g) competitive grant written by former math teacher Melissa Mainiero. This lab is primarily used for the math program "PLATO", but is also use by other subjects. BHS also obtained a wireless computer math lab through this grant. This lab is housed in Mr. Thompson's classroom and is used daily by the Mathematics department.
Classroom Performance System
Benton High School was instrumental in the expansion of the "Classroom Performance Systems" throughout the country and world. BHS was one of the first high schools in the country to begin using CPS. CPS is now being used in hundreds of elementary, middle, high schools and colleges around the country and world.
The Classroom Performance System (otherwise know as "Clickers") inspires and engages each students. The Classroom Performance System (CPS) is an easy-to-use IR response system that obtains immediate feedback from every student. With CPS, you can ask objective and subjective questions, then every student responds with their individual, wireless response pad! CPS is being used in 45 US states and in eight countries worldwide. Since the introduction of CPS in 2000, over 200,000 response pads have been placed in use. With CPS, you can ask objective and subjective questions, then every student responds with their individual, wireless response pad! In addition to assessing classroom comprehension, CPS also grades quizzes and homework in a matter of seconds.
