Accomplishments
Academics:

Due to the hard work of a careful administration, Benton is one of the few schools with only 13% of its classes having an enrollment of 28 or more.

Grant Funding:

- Project TIMES (Technology in Mathematics Ensures Success)

3 - 8(g) Competitive Grants totaling $213,592.00

The benefits have been shown in the rise in test scores and the successful implementation of a Mathematics curriculum for the 8.5 students

Teachers and students are enthused about the opportunity to use the program.

Additional funding has been received through Bossier NET Pals and QSM grants totaling $10,000.00

All of these funds have been acquired to enhance various courses and raise the level of student achievement on standardized test.

- Standardized Test Preparation

Using the concepts provided by Dr. Harvey Silver in the Summer 2000 workshop, we have implemented a strong test preparation program. This includes a "Word Wall" in every classroom, a "Learning Log" kept by each student in each course, and "Rigorous Mondays".

These techniques ensure that all teachers are teachers of VOCABULARY, a necessary component for success on GEE 21.

Under the new state accountability plan, all high school must achieve a baseline score of 100 by the year 2010. Baseline scores are formulated using 60% IOWA scores, 30% GEE, 5% drop out rate and 5% overall school attendance.

Benton High School achieved a baseline score of 101.7 in its initial year, thereby reaching the 10-year goal set by the state. This places us in the upper 12.5% of all high schools in the state.

We are proud of our initial scores, but our objective is to always do better. The state has set a goal for us to achieve a score of 106.7 by the fall of 2003. It is a lofty goal but one that we feel we can achieve with a great deal of hard work and initiative.

Graduation Exit Examination (GEE): Benton High School achieved a scaled score of 321 in Mathematics and 318 in English Language Arts. This also placed us in the upper levels of proficiency set by the state.

Iowa Test of Educational Development: Those students who took the Iowa test in the spring of 2002 raked in the 56th percentile in reading, the 62nd percentile in language expression, the 60th percentile in math, the 53rd percentile in social studies, the 50th percentile in information, and topped out by ranking in the 65th percentile in science.
