The Optimist Club of Bossier City honored several Bossier students at a special luncheon on Wednesday. The group, which usually meets every Wednesday at noon at the Dee-Light-Full Cafe in Bossier City, moved to Lucky Palace Restaurant to provide lunch and some much deserved recognition for 16 area students.

Two Optimist Rising Stars were selected from each Bossier Parish School from the pool of freshmen and sophomores by school assistant principals, who deal with the students on a day-to-day basis. Attributes considered for the honor include grades, school behavior, attitude and a drug-free lifestyle. While most awards the club presents come down from the international level, the Rising Stars program is exclusive to the Bossier City group.

Cecil Strickland with the Optimist Club developed the idea for the Rising Stars to put the spotlight on a group of students that often get ignored, those who’ve improved scholastically while overcoming difficulties in their lives to become better students and citizens.
