Parkway scored narrow victories over Benton in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions of the District 1-4A cross country meet at Cypress Park Monday.
With junior Matt Wolfe taking first place with 17:04, Parkway’s boys scored 36 points to 40 for Benton.
In the girls’ division, Parkway scored a 26-29 victory over Benton although Benton freshman Kaitlin Flattmann was the individual winner with 19:43.8, more than two minutes ahead of second-placce Olivia Ditt of Parkway.
Parkway took team honors as Ditt, a senior, and juniors Morgan Hanson and Becca Meehan finished 2-3-4.
Parkway and Benton were the only complete teams in the girls’ division, and took 14 of the top 15 positions. The only runner from another school who placed among the top 15 was Jasmine Cleveland of Minden, who was 11th.
The boys’ division was more competitive, as Shane Hershberger of Benton was second, DeAndre Harper of Minden third, Michael Bertsch of Parkway fourth and Steve Melancon of Haughton fifth.
The top 10 runners in each division made All-District.
The All-District girls team includes Flattman, Julia Russell, Cassy Rains, Britlyn Spataro and Ashley Harrison of Benton and Ditt, Hanson, Meehan, Erika Bortree and Syudney Rich of Parkway.
The All-District boys’ team includes Wolfe, Bertsch and Keith Clark of Parkway, Hershberger, Trey Elliot, Dean Little and Taylor Ashton of Benton, Harper of Minden and Melancon and Bubba Martin of Haughton. |
