Breanna Spivy, who was severely burned as an infant and lost both her feet along with the fingers on one hand, was recently honored with a resolution passed by both houses of the Louisiana Legislature for her courage and success as a competitor in the state Games Uniting Mind and Body (GUMBO) event for physically challenged athletes. (Special to Bossier Voices) Breanna Spivy was severely burned as an infant and as a result, both of her feet were amputated along with the fingers on one hand.
But the Bossier City teen kept her spirit.
In fact, the high school junior and foster child was recently honored with a resolution passed by both houses of the Louisiana Legislature for her courage and success as a competitor in the state Games Uniting Mind and Body (GUMBO) event for physically challenged athletes.
Rep. Billy Montgomery, along with local Rep. Jane Smith and area Sens. Sherri Smith Cheek, Robert Adley and Max Malone later requested that the legislative bodies applaud the teen with an official resolution.
The framed resolution was presented in a surprise ceremony on July 1 at Breanna's church: Airline Drive Church of Christ.
The resolution was even more deserved because after being burned, Breanna was placed in the foster care system, eventually finding her way to Allen and Elaine Spivy. Read more at ShreveportTimes.com... |
