Mitch Downey - Head Coach / Athletic Director
Head Coach Mitch Downey currently serves at the Benton Tiger’s head football coach and Athletic Director. Coach Downey has 25 years of coaching experience, with time at both Bossier High and Benton. This is Downey’s 16th year at Benton. In addition to football, Coach Downey also serves as assistant wrestling coach. Downey attended North Texas State and Louisiana State University in Shreveport. Mitch is married to Sharon Downey, and has 4 children; Ronnie, Brittney, Kirsten, and Rocky.

In Coach Downey’s tenure as the head coach of Benton High (since 1993), The Tigers have made the playoffs all but 1 year – his third year (1995). Over that period, the Tigers have earned 8 district titles (6 straight), and 14 playoff appearances (12 straight).
 

Caleb Guidry - Defensive Coordinator
Coach Caleb Guidry serves as Defensive Coordinator, and is in his 11th year of coaching – all at Benton High. Guidry is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, and has also attended LSU Baton Rouge and LSU Shreveport. He is also the Head Wrestling Coach and Assistant Track & Field Coach. Caleb is married to Christy Guidry, PE teacher at Meadoview Elementary and they have no children.

Don Bihm - Offensive Coordinator
Coach Don Bihm currently serves as the Tigers Offensive Coordinator. Bihm has 23 years of teaching and coaching experience at Airline High School, Huntington High School, & Walnut Hill Middle School. This is his 10th year at Benton High. He also servers as Assistant Basketball coach. Coach Bihm attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. Don is married to Shelly Bihm, teacher at Benton Elementary and has two children, Kelyn, 13, and Hayden, 8.

Tim Cram - Defensive Backs
Coach Tim Cram currently serves as the Benton Tigers Defensive Backs coach. Coach Cram has 15 years of coaching experience, with 14 of those years at Benton High. Cram served one year as Strength Coach at Georgia Southern University. He attended the University of Alabama, ULM, and Georgia Southern University for his Masters work. Coach Cram also serves as Head Boys Basketball coach. Tim is married to Leslie Cram and has two boys, Shane and Brooks.

 

Jamey Wainscott - Defensive & Offensive Line
Coach Jamey Wainscott currently servers as the Benton Tigers Defensive Line & Offensive Line coach. Coach Wainscott has 12 years of coaching experience – all at Benton High. Wainscott also serves as assistant Basketball coach. Coach Wainscott earned his degree from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA. Jamey is married to Penny Wainscott, and has two boys, Owen, 6, and Andrew, 2.

David Abney - Strong Safeties / Tight Ends
Coach David Abney serves as the strong safteys / tight ends coach. Through his twenty-four years of coaching football he has held the responsibilities of linebacker coach (12 yrs), defensive coordinator (10 yrs), and as head coach (2 yrs). In addition, during his football tenure he also has served as strength coach and assistant track coach. David will also be serving as the head soccer (boys) coach and assistant baseball coach at Benton for the tigers. David is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, where he was a member of the 1973 Division II National Championship Team as a linebacker. He has also attended LSUS in Shreveport and received an add-on degree. Coach Abney’s teaching experience has been in special education and general science. He is married to Madora Abney, teacher at Apollo Elementary, and has four children, Caitlyn, Taylor, Clayton, and Travis. Coach Abney is proud to be a “Benton Tiger”.

Scott Carroway - Defensive & Offensive Line
Coach Scott Carroway currently servers as the Benton Tigers Defensive Line & Offensive Line coach. Coach Carroway has 16 years of coaching experience at Benton High. Carroway also serves as the head boys track coach. Coach Carroway earned his undergraduate degree from Northeast Louisiana University and Master Degree at LSUS. Scott is married to Sally and has 3 children, Gage, 11, Georgia, 7, and Gentry, 4.

Barry Plunkett - Defensive & Offensive Line
Coach Jamey Wainscott currently servers as the Benton Tigers Defensive Line & Offensive Line coach.

Greg Bryant - Freshman Coach
Coach Greg Bryant currently serves as the Benton Tigers Freshman football coach. Coach Bryant has 12 years coaching experience at Haughton High, Linear Middle School, and Rusheon Middle School. This is Bryant’s sixth year at Benton High. Coach Bryant also servers at Head Baseball Coach. Bryant attended Southern Arkansas, ULM (formerly Northeast La. University), and BPCC. Greg is married to Kelly Bryant and has two daughters, Brooke 6 and Kadyn 5 months.

Brian France - Freshman Coach
Coach Brian France currently serves as the Benton Tigers Freshman football coach. Coach France has 10 years of coaching experience from Parkway High, Byrd High, and Greenacres Middle School. This is France’s second year at Benton. He also serves as assistant baseball coach. Coach France attended Louisiana Tech and BPCC. Brian is married to Michelle France, teacher at Benton High, and has two children, son Creighton, 7, and daughter Carlee, 5.

 

Shandrick Tasby - Freshman Coach
Coach Shandrick Tasby is a full-time student at LSUS and is working towards a degree in Science Education and Physical Education. Coach Tasby is a Benton High graduate, and he assist with Football, Wrestling and Track & Field.
