Track boys second, girls third in regional |

 Freshman Julia Russell was awarded Outstanding Track Athlete at the Regional Track Meet Benton High’s boys were runnersup to Rayville in the Class 3A regional track and field meet at Natchitoches Thursday. The Benton girls were third behind Buckeye and Wossman. Julia Russell of Benton won “Outstanding Track Athlete” honors in the girls’ division as she won the 1,600-meter run in 6:01.1 and the 3,200 in 13:48.22, and was third in the 800 with 2:36.0, qualifying for the state meet in all three events. Benton winners in the boys’ division were Romero Brass with 47-9 in the shot put, Daytrin Johnson with 44-0 1/4 in the triple jump and Taylor Ashton with 11:10.7 in the 3,200-meter run.
Cassy Rains of Benton was third in both the 1,600 and 3,200 in the girls’ division, qualifying for the state meet in both events. Her times were 6:02.3 and 13:49.3. She was also fourth in the 800 with 2:38. |
