Benton High School Senior Anna Whittington has been named Louisiana's Youth Conservationist of the Year recently by the Louisiana Wildlife Federation. She worked to obtain money from the federally funded Conservation Reserve Program, which provides technical and financial assistance to eligible farmers and ranchers to address soil, water and related natural resource concerns on their lands. She and her father and uncle planted pine trees and some hardwoods on about 100 acres in Sabine Parish near Robeline.  Anna volunteers at the Cypress Nature Study Center, coordinating activities such as Greenwing Day, National Hunting and Fishing Day, 4H Wildlife Day, Agfest Wildlife Conservation Stations, State Fair "Kid's Day" and the National Wild Turkey Federation JAKES Conservation Education Day. Anna is also actively involved at Benton High in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Students Against Destructive Decisions groups, and competes in high school rodeo events.

She was selected to be the 2005-06 Louisiana 4H Shooting Sports Ambassador to represent the shooting sports program at civic events and to assist at state competitions.  Benton High is very proud of Anna Whittington!
