Anna Whittington doesn't let too many flies land on her stirrup. She doesn't have time to fool with them.
Named Louisiana's Youth Conservationist of the Year recently by the Louisiana Wildlife Federation, the Benton High School senior spends many of her waking hours volunteering at the Cypress Nature Study Center, competing in rodeos, hunting, fishing or planting trees on her family's vast acreage in Bossier and Sabine parishes.
The latter effort earned her one of the state's most prestigious awards.
"I have had fun and enjoyed doing all of the conservation projects, and it's nice to be recognized for that hard work," Whittington said. "It is a great honor to receive such a prestigious award, and it's cute, too. This award has encouraged me to continue my conservation work in the future."
