After one experiences cooking, arts and crafts, livestock, horses, outdoor skills, 4-H camp, 4-H University, Marsh Maneuvers, National 4-H Congress, Southern Regional Horse Show, and the North American International Livestock Exposition, the only thing to say is 4-H is a life-changing program. Brakeville fares well in national event

Maggie Brakeville of Bossier City was on the second-place finishing team in the recent 4-H Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program, a national event held in Stillwater, Okla. Brakeville joined Eric Smith of Calcasieu Parish, Carlin LeDoux of Beauregard and Lindsey Tassin of East Baton Rouge to complete the highest ever finish by a Louisiana team, according to LSU county agent Joe Barrett. Tennessee won the event with Indiana finishing third. "The team that beat us had been together for a full year, while we put our team together in June," Barrett said. "We're proud of the effort they made. This was a very big honor." Read more...

4-H participates in Livestock Show

Benton’s 4-H Club had eight students involved in the Bossier Parish Livestock Show held Saturday, October 7th. Among the many awards won by Benton’s 4-H members, Anna Whittington won First Place in Showmanship in the Market Goat Class; Beth Brakeville had the Champion Showman in the Lamb Show; Erika Anderson won Third in the Market Goat Class, Second in the Market Lamb Class and the Reserve Commercial Heifer; Jacob Harrell won Third and Fifth in the Market Goat Class; Tristan Boatner won First and Fourth in the Market Goat Class; Chase Compton won First and Second and had the Grand Champion in the Market Goat Class; Codi Greer had the Champion Market Steer and the Reserve Champion Angus Heifer; and DJ Greer had the Champion Angus Heifer and the Supreme Champion Heifer.  Congratulations to all these winners for their hard work!  The 4-H Club is sponsored by teacher Dan McClellan.
 
BHS sweeps the annual 4-H awards

On May 2, 2006 the Bossier Parish 4-H held its yearly awards night. Among the big winners was Anna Whittington, Outstanding 4-H Club Member; Best Club Song and Yell for BHS; Outstanding 4-H Club for BHS; Erika Anderson taking home the Sara Peace Award and High-Point Senior Award; and Cassie Emerson with four scholarships.  The following is a complete list of all awards that Benton High School received this year:

4-H Regional Contest

BHS students Erica Anderson and Amanda Pittmon were winners at the 4-H Regional Cooking Contest, which had entrants from eleven parishes. Erica won first place for her Crab dish and Amanda won second place for her Processed Poultry and a Blue Ribbon Certificate for her Beef One Dish. Students had to have placed first in their parish contests to qualify for this event.  Scoring was based on recipe, appearance, and taste and students also had to complete a written test.  Congratulations, Erica and Amanda!
