Last Friday, October 20, three of our neighboring high school students, Emily Perdue, 16, Molly Reed, 15, and Katy Watkins, 16, were tragically killed in a car accident on their way to a football game in Natchitoches. Many of our students, faculty and staff were greatly impacted by these girls, and deeply sadden by their death. |

On Saturday, 1,200 people gathered to celebrate the hard work of students and schools with a Walk for Education sponsored by the Alliance for Education. Students raised money for various school projects. Half of the money earned stays at the school to fund those projects. The Alliance gave cash prizes to schools and students that raised the most money. |

Homecoming week always brings excitement and many events. Each day student will once again be allowed to show their Tiger Spirit by participation in the daily dress-up. Everyone is also invited to the second annual Tiger Rally Thursday night at 6:30 PM in Tiger Stadium. Tickets for the rally will be $2 to enter, or $6 to enter plus Podnuh's Bar-B-Q. The Benton High School 2006 Homecoming Dance will be held at the Holiday Inn in Bossier City on Saturday, October 21 from 7:30 until 11:00 P.M. Tickets are required and will be on sale in room C2 (McCullough) from Monday, October 2 until Wednesday, October 11. The cost is $15 a ticket. Twelve student-athletes at Bossier Parish high schools have been nominated for the prestigious Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. The program, awarded in conjunction with the college football Heisman Trophy award, celebrates the achievements of the nation’s top high school seniors, taking into account their academic aptitude, athletic talent and exceptional commitment to their schools and communities. |

The Benton High School 2006 Homecoming Court has been announced. The court will be presented Friday, October 20 during the Peprally, and also Friday night during half-time of the football game vs. North DeSoto. The Homecoming Queen will also be announced at the football game. BHS Alumni is encouraged to attend the Peprally during the day and attend the Homecoming game Friday night to see the queen, and also cheer the Tigers to victory. For the first time in recent history, Benton High School has a Book Fair scheduled. Come by the school library between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm, September 25-29th, to look through the selection of titles chosen by Scholastic for high school students. This is a new program for Scholastic and for us. Long a supplier of Book Fairs for elementary and middle schools, Scholastic has seen a need for a source of high school recreational reading materials. |

Congratulations to senior Brittany Bienvenu for being named 2006 BHS Jamboree Queen. Brittany will be presented at halftime of the Jamboree game this Friday night. The BHS Tigers will take on the Airline Vikings this Friday night at Airline Stadium. Everyone is invited to come out and support Brittany and the Tigers. |

Attention BHS students. Show your class pride with an official class shirt. 2006 class shirts will be on sale in Mrs. France's Room (C-1) this week. All classes will have an opportunity to purchase a shirt. Each shirt will be $10.00 and will be on sale until this Friday, August 18. Also, BHS Fall School Pictures will be taken on August 29. Cap and Gown re-takes for BHS Seniors will be held on Sept 21. |
