Kelle Head has been named Benton High School Teacher of the Year for the 2008-2009 school year. Ms. Head graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism/Public Relations. She worked at Northwestern as an Admissions Counselor/Recruiter while completing her Master of Education Degree. Ms. Head began her teaching career at Bossier High School, where she taught for one semester before coming to teach at Benton High. This is her fifth year at BHS. Read more about Ms. Head... |

Selitha Turner, Benton High School Speech, Drama and English teacher, has been awarded the VFW Teacher of the Year Award for both Bossier Parish and for the VFW Region. This prestigious award is given to the high school teacher who does an outstanding job promoting student involvement in the community.Mrs. Turner is the sponsor of the SADD organization (Students Against Destructive Decisions). This group sponsored Red Ribbon Week in the Fall with various activities to promote a “Just say No” attitude to drugs and other bad decisions for the students at BHS. The organization also volunteered to work the Revel Anti-DWI food booth for a week in late September and early October. Read more... |

The Optimist Club of Bossier City honored several Bossier students at a special luncheon on Wednesday. The group, which usually meets every Wednesday at noon at the Dee-Light-Full Cafe in Bossier City, moved to Lucky Palace Restaurant to provide lunch and some much deserved recognition for 16 area students. Two Optimist Rising Stars were selected from each Bossier Parish School from the pool of freshmen and sophomores by school assistant principals, who deal with the students on a day-to-day basis. The next Driver’s Education class at BHS will begin on January 15th. Students must be at least 15 years old to take the class. The course fee is $175. Students can sign up for the course and pay the fee in the BHS office. For additional information, contact Gary Feaster, BHS Counselor. |

A representative from Graduate Sales will be here Monday, November 5 at 8:30 a.m. to meet with seniors about ordering senior merchandise. The meeting will be in the gym. Graduate Sales will return on Tuesday, November 13 for seniors to place orders. |

Benton High School will once again participate in the annual Alliance for Education Walk for Education. All BHS students are encouraged to help raise raised money for the walk, which funds various school projects. Half of the money earned stays at the school to fund those projects plus an additional $1000 for the school that raises the most money. In addition to the cash prizes awarded at the walk, BHS is also offering several opportunities and awards for our students. More info here... |

The Benton High School 2007 Homecoming Court has been announced. The court will be presented Friday, September 14 during the Peprally, and also Friday night during half-time of the football game vs. Springhill. The Homecoming Queen will also be announced at the football game. BHS Alumni is encouraged to attend the Peprally during the day and attend the Homecoming game Friday night to see the queen, and also cheer the Tigers to victory. On Friday, August 24th, we will be having a “New Student Breakfast” in the school cafeteria. At this time, the Freshman/Sophomore counselor, Monica Lauterbach, will introduce our new students to the sponsors or student representatives of our team sports and organizations. After the meeting, Mrs. Lauterback will let the club sponsor know which students expressed an interest in being a part of the club or organization. The breakfast will be held from 7:30-8:00. |
