Bossier Parish Students produced 6,251 (an all-time record) motivational letters that have been sent over seas to our troops to arrive prior to Christmas as a morale booster and to let them know we appreciate their service and sacrifice on our behalf. Each school selected a winning letter, and Matt LaRue is the Benton High School winner. Matt, along with other winners, will read their letters to the Bossier Parish School Board. |

Last week, BHS Seniors chose items they wanted to purchase as mementoes of their upcoming graduation in the spring. Graduation Sales met with seniors in the library where the students made their selections. Seniors were also reminded that if they have not ordered their caps and gowns, they need to do so immediately. BHS Seniors were very excited as they began to realize that graduation is really going to happen—they have worked hard and continue to work hard toward that diploma, one key milestone in the quest for a great career and life. |

Thirty-six Theatre students, Drama Club members, and Freshman English Honors students attended BPCC’s musical comedy production of “Once Upon a Mattress.” Several BHS parents also attended with the students. BPCC offers free admission to high school students to attend the “night before opening” performances of their productions, and BHS takes full advantage of the generous program. |

BHS administration and faculty have introduced a new program called the “Positive Behavior System” in order to reward those students whose “Positive Behavior” makes it a pleasure to have them at school. The tenets of the program encourage every student to be a “Respectful, Responsible, Honorable, Problem-Solver.” Teachers and students review these tenets and complete activities based on them each month; in addition, the tenets are hung up all around the school to remind students of their commitment to “Positive Behavior.” Reward programs, which will be administered later this semester, have been developed to support BHS students with Positive Behavior. |

BHS welcomes Officer Butch Smith as the new SRO for the campus. Officer Smith and his family have lived in Bossier Parish since 1954. He has worked for Sperry New Holland, in the real estate market (owned his own company, which he later sold), and joined the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office in 1998. As part of the Sheriff’s team, he worked in Corrections, on Patrol, as Courthouse Security, and in Fingerprint Identification with the national fingerprint database (AFIS-Automated Fingerprint Identification System). His father was Director of Transportation for Bossier Parish Schools for 19 years. Officer Smith says he grew up very close to the school system, and feels truly blessed to be part of it again. Everyone is pleased to welcome Officer Butch Smith to BHS. |
