BHS AFJROTC hand-deliver 500 Christmas cards

On December 4th, 11th, and 18th, cadets from BHS AFJROTC hand-delivered 500 Christmas cards to the Northwest and Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Homes and the VA Hospital. The intent was to provide cheer for both retired and active duty military personnel.
 
Benton JROTC is inspected by Air Force official

Benton’s Air Force Junior ROTC Department and Cadets were inspected by U.S. Air Force Colonel Gesch, Area Administrator. BHS’s ROTC Cadets were awarded top ratings, and Colonel Gesch commented that Benton’s ROTC program is in the top 10% of all the ROTC programs he has ever inspected. Colonel Gesch was given a flawless briefing by Benton High’s ROTC Cadet Colonel Ben Walker, Corps Commander; Cadet Lt. Colonel Hailey Odell, Vice Corps Commander; Cadet Captain Thomas Greathouse, Physical Fitness Officer; and Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Heather Wilson, Command Chief Cadet Corps.  Each Cadet was awarded “Top Performer” status by Colonel Gesch.
 
JROTC’s Kitty Hawk Air Society holds induction ceremony

JROTC’s Kitty Hawk Air Society held its induction ceremony this past week, and 32 BHS students were initiated into the Society.  In order to be eligible for Kitty Hawk, students have to be ROTC Cadets with a gpa of 3.3 or higher. New inductees include Karlee Alley, Ashlyn Brock, Cory Burton, Cody Clifford, James Covington, Leigh Covington, Luke Digilormo, Holly Dutton, Daniel Gomez, Jose Gomez, Tanner Goodwin, Kristina Hall, Ashley Hays, Justin Hesterly, Jacob Humphrey, Jasmine Kelly, Kaitlyn Jeter, Matt LaRue, Andrea Little, Destini Maynard, Kyler McKee, Morgan Miller, Gloria Munoz, Jason Porter, Britney Reed, Sarah SanAngelo, Olivia Smith, Matt Stevens, Ashley Stratton, Charrisa Taylor, Lance Thompson and Amber Watson.  The Kitty Hawk Air Society commander is 2nd Lt. Sylina Brown.
 
JROTC competes in ALTOS Meet

Benton’s 951 Special Operations Group (part of BHS ROTC) competed in the ALTOS Engineering Meet at Lake Claiborne State Park.  The Benton cadets competed in Orienteering, which is cross country running using a compass and map.  The cadets placed in several events:  Ben Walker, First Place, White Course, Age 17 Males; Amber Beylik, First Place White Course, Age 15 Females; Jason Porter, Second Place, Yellow Course, Age 14 Males; Brittney Odell, Second Place, White Course, Age 16 Females; Sylina Brown, Second Place, White Course, Age 17 Females; Thomas Greathouse, Second Place, White Course, Age 16 Males; and Matthew Stevens, Third Place, White Course, Age 16 Males. Ten schools and 150 competitors participated in the Meet.  The 951 Special Operations Group represented BHS extremely well!
 
JROTC members participate in CIA day trip

Benton’s JROTC members participated in a CIA day trip recently.  The purpose of the trip was to visit the Tyler Aviation Museum.  The museum displays various aircraft from the 1950’s to the present.  In addition, there is a history of flight display, which traces the origins of flight up to the present and includes both civilian and military advances.  Cadets also observed a Korean War Flight Simulator along with a General Officer Staff Car from this era. ROTC teachers and sponsors are Lt. Col. John Collier, MSgt. Tim Martin, and MSgt. Dave Milner.
