The Groundbreaking ceremony for Benton High School’s new science building was hosted by principal Scott Smith, who thanked everyone responsible for this new addition to the school, and described the many advantages the building will have for Benton students. First and foremost, Mr. Smith thanked the voters of Bossier Parish for approving the funding for this project. |

Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Science Wing for Benton High School will be held at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, August 29 at the south end of the campus, adjacent to the old gymnasium. This new building is the result of the bond issue which was approved by the voters in 2004. Everyone is invited to attend. |

“Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the Benton High School Senior Class of 2007”—this announcement was met with applause and cheers at the Ring Ceremony during which Benton High’s Junior Class students were presented with their senior rings. In the packed Benton Gymnasium, an audience of several hundred family members and friends of Benton High students celebrated the arrival of the 2007 class. The theme for the event was “An Evening in Paris” and over 100 students marched into the gym and received their rings in front of a lighted Eiffel Tower with Parisian music playing in the background. The event was planned and sponsored by Benton teacher Earlene Winham. |

Benton High School students won several distinguished awards at the recent YACA convention. YACA (Youth Art Council of America) is a state-wide organization for middle and high school art students. South Louisiana was the hosting district for the YACA State Convention, which was held at the Lafayette Hilton and Towers, with nineteen school chapters attending. This year’s theme was “Southern Art is Hot, Hot, Hot!” Each chapter had to choose a southern artist to focus on and learn more about. Performances were based on the south Louisiana tradition of Second Line Performances and umbrellas that were used during the performance had to be decorated in the style of the artist. Table decorations for the banquet and banners also had to represent the artist’s style. |

Benton High School’s annual Awards Assembly was held on Tuesday, May 2. Music was provided by the Benton Tiger Band. The Benton ROTC Color Guard, made up of cadets Clinton Camp, Kassidee Canfield, Alexa Dempsey and Marianne Mullins, presented the Colors. Among the dignitaries attending were Benton Mayor Albert Doughty, School Board President George Finck, Bossier Parish School Superintendent Ken Kruithof, community leaders from prominent associations who presented the student awards, and parents and friends of Benton High School students. Ceremony emcees were Honor Society members Erica Hudson and David Watters. |
