Mona Russell, Benton High School Science teacher, has been awarded $1,000 by the KTBS “One Class At A Time” program! Mrs. Russell received the $1000 to buy Chaos Towers, which will be used when the class studies Simple Machines. The students will build towers that will be about five feet high, using concepts presented in class about the six simple machines. The goal is to build a path for a marble to follow, and then construct a chain lift to get the marble back to the top. Each Chaos Tower set contains over 500 pieces. Congratulations to Mrs. Russell! |

Homecoming is just around the corner, and Benton High is busy making preparations. The Benton High Student Council held Homecoming Court Elections this past week and the results are in: Football Sweetheart, Brittney Barnard; ROTC Sweetheart, Olga Georgia; Band Sweetheart, Heather Ashton; Homecoming Maids include Nadia Lopez, Rachel Boogaerts, Haley White, Melissa Duckworth, Brooke Siem, Carolyn Bernard, Rachel Carlson, Erica Palma, and Taylor Agee. Benton’s Homecoming King is Kendrick Stewart. The Court will be presented at the Pep Rally on Thursday, September 22 and again at the Tiger Football Game on Friday, September 23. Teacher Michelle France is sponsor of the Benton High Student Council. |

Stewart Thompson, Benton High School’s Teacher of the Year, has been selected as the Bossier Parish Teacher of the Year. Mr. Thompson, a math teacher and the school’s “Web Master,” will now compete for Teacher of the Year for our region. A more deserving teacher could not be found—Mr. Thompson created, expanded and maintains www.bentonhighschool.com -- the web site that has become a must for students, parents and the community. Benton High School will offer three ACT preparation workshops on October 1st, 8th, and 15th. Each workshop will begin at 8 A.M. and end by 1:00 P.M. The cost is $5 for all three workshops. Students can enroll for the workshops by contacting Gary Feaster, Benton High School Counselor, in the school office. |

Benton High School’s Flagline attended camp at Northwestern University over the summer for the first time, and won 3 of the top awards: Most Outstanding Flagline Group; Most Improved in Rifle Handling; Most Improved in Flag Routines. Benton’s Flagline includes Captain MaQueta Pipkin, Christie Jones, Rebecca Metcalf, Roxanne Woods, Leslie Waldrop, Holly Sandefur, Stefani Woodrum, Julie Searing, Sarah Caudle, Samantha Jernigan, and Ms. Ann Nelson, Sponsor. |

Benton High School welcomes a new administrator, new teachers and para-professionals, and a new security officer for the 2005-2006 school year:
Assistant Principal: Scott Carroway, former head of Benton High School's social studies department, is the new assistant principal at the school. Carroway, head track coach and assistant football coach, has taught at Benton High for more than 10 years. |
