Engineering Club members from Benton High plan to attend the Louisiana Tech Engineering and Science Day on March 27 at LA Tech in Ruston. The event will include several learning activities including a design competition. Members also continue to work on the Engineering Club Robot. The “bot” now has drive electronics and IR Proximity Detectors (sensors). The group is currently working on programming the “bot” to use the sensors to navigate the school hallways.. |

“Broadway through the Years” will be performed at Airline High School Auditorium on Saturday, February 25 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, February 26 at 2:00 pm. The program will include acting, singing, dancing, and band music from Broadway shows from this past century. The program is the brainchild of Pam Haley, Curriculum Director for Bossier Parish Schools. It is a partnership between Bossier Parish High Schools and Bossier Arts Council and is funded through a Bossier Arts Council grant and Bossier Parish Educational Excellence Funds. |

The Rotary Club would like to send one sophomore boy and one girl to a camp near Pleasant Hill, Louisiana this summer, June 18 – 24. The Rotary Club will pay camp expenses and provide transportation. Sophomores from all over the state will be in attendance. Leadership skills will be taught and outdoor activities such as a Canoe trip will be a lot of fun. Louisiana State Representative Jane Smith visited Benton High to award a special citation from the Louisiana House of Representatives to two Benton teachers for their outstanding work and accomplishments this year. Stewart Thompson was recognized for achieving Regional Teacher of the Year for 2005 and for his work on the Benton High School web site; Mitch Downey was recognized for his outstanding contribution to Benton High School athletics. Both teachers received copies of the special citations signed by the Louisiana Speaker of the House and Representative Smith. |

Bossier Parish High Schools will participate in a musical production entitled “Broadway Through the Years.” Selected students from every Bossier Parish High School Band, Choir and Drama Department will perform together in the production. Performances will be on Saturday, February 25 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, February 26 at 2:00 pm in the Airline High School auditorium. Benton has several students in the event: Brittney Branum, Nick Sewell, and Clarence McShan will have speaking parts in the program; Nicole Nezat, Delebra Johnson, Crystal Odell, and Jonathan Lopez will have dancing parts. In addition, members of the Benton Tiger Marching Band and the Benton Choir will participate. This event is under the direction of Bossier Parish Curriculum Director Pam Haley. |

Teachers at Benton High were addressed by the school nurse, Sherry Sharp, at a recent faculty meeting. Teachers viewed two videos on how to quickly respond to different medical emergencies students may have at school. Benton’s ROTC students prepared packets of first aid supplies such as band aids, alcohol swabs, gauze pads, protective gloves, and a protective breathing device, which were distributed to all teachers. |
