Congratulations to the Benton Tiger Marching Band for their Superior rating in concert performance and sight reading at the District 8 Choir and Band Festival. The Superior rating qualified them for the State Music Festivals. The Tiger Band is the only group in the state of Louisiana that qualified for both Choir and Band Festivals. At the State Choir Festival in Morgan City, the Benton Tiger Vocal Band received an Outstanding rating in concert performance and an Excellent rating in sight reading. Read the full issue... |

The Benton High School Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 53 students into the prestigious organization at a ceremony held recently. National Honor Society Officers administering the Honor Society Promise to “maintain high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character” were Brittany Bienvenu, President; Erin VanZandt, Vice President; Maggie Boggs, Program Director; Kelly Flurry, Secretary, and Sara Beth Russell, Treasurer. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Benton’s Student Council is providing very special surveys for students to fill out. The students who turn in their completed surveys will have the opportunity to buy professional print-outs from a data match company that will match them with the ten people at Benton High that are most compatible with them in their grade and the ten people that are most compatible with them in grades other than theirs. Mark your calendar! Dates for the annual Bossier Parish Musical Spectacular have been announced: March 2nd and 3rd. The Musical, “Give My Regards to Broadway”, will be held at the Airline Auditorium and will include music, singing, dancing and acting by students from several Bossier Parish High Schools. Benton High’s ROTC unit has been very busy! First, they have had visitors: MSgt. David Beach, SSgt. Curtis Downey, and SrA Melace Miller, representatives of the AF Reserve 917 Wing, visited the Benton High School AFJROTC cadets this past month. Two of the eleven students from Caddo and Bossier Parishes selected to participate in the SMART program were from Benton High: Janee Greer and Alexander Parmater. The S.M.A.R.T. Program (Science & Medicine Academic Research Training) is a partnership of the Biomedical Research Foundation, LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport and Caddo/ Bossier Parish school systems. The field of biotechnology in medicine is booming and the S.M.A.R.T. program provides a unique opportunity for these highly motivated high school seniors to learn. |
