Notices/Meetings/Events:


Students if you have any health needs that need to be addressed by the nurse, please stop by the front office and get a Health Update form to be completed by a parent.  These may be turned in with your registration paperwork to the front office.

 

Students if you drive to school, you must purchase a Benton High School parking permit ($15).  Registration forms are outside the front office and the permit can be purchased from Mrs. McDill in the office.  Cars parked illegally can be ticketed ($10) and towed away at the owner’s expense.  If you have already been ticketed you must pay the fine plus purchase a parking permit for a total of $25. Driving privileges can be revoked if your fine is not paid.

 

The girls soccer tryouts that were scheduled for August 28 and August 29 have been postponed. The new dates will be announced at a later date.  Please continue sign up in A-23.

 

SGA elections will be held in lab B-7 before school and during both lunch shifts on Thursday, August 28. You may also vote on your phone or computer by going to www.voting4schools.com and entering your 6-digit EDUTEST number.  GO VOTE!!!!

 

We are excited to announce that we will be having a Chicken Day shirt design contest! We are looking for a new design for Chicken Day shirts that can be worn on Wednesdays. The shirt must incorporate a tiger and a chicken and must be an approved color. Turn your designs in to Mrs. Howe by Friday, August 29.

 

If you are interested in joining the Guitar Club, please see Mr. Alvarez.  We will be meeting this Wednesday after school.  Bring your guitar to room D-5.

 

Cast and crew for the upcoming Spanish Club film, there is a production meeting this Thursday during KTGR in Mr. Alvarez’ room, D-5.

 

The Bossier Women Leaders of Tomorrow Program was developed to enrich the educational experience of high school girls in Bossier Parish.  Two senior girls from each school are chosen to participate in this mentoring program. 

Eligibility criteria:

  • Senior female student
  • GPA 2.0 or above
  • Involved in community, church, or extracurricular activities
  • One teacher recommendation
  • Personal transportation to attend activities

Any senior girl interested in being considered for this program needs to see Ms. Dunn in the Counselor’s Suite by Friday, August 29.

 

If you are interested in joining the swim team, please pick up a packet this week from Ms. Poole in room D-8. 

 

There is bible study every Wednesday morning at 7:00 AM in Coach George’s room.  Everyone is invited to attend.

 

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Membership signup.  Everyone is invited to join FCA.  You do not have to be a member of an athletic team.  Dues are $15.00 and include an FCA t-shirt.  FCA meets every Thursday during both lunch shifts.  Feel free to contact Mrs. Wade or Coach McConathy if you have any questions.  Stop by Coach McConathy’s room (HomeEc) to pick up an application form today!

 

For Sale/Fundraisers:


The Bossier City Lion Club Football Jamboree are on sale in the front office.  Tickets are $5.  Benton High School receives $1 for every ticket sold here at Benton.  Our Benton Tigers will be playing Airline at 9:00 PM.

 

Purchase a 2014 Football Season Pass for $35 in the front office through September 5 (first home game).  This is for all 5 regular season home games.

Students/Parents:  The Louisiana Department of Education has mandated that all cell phones be collected by test administrators during all high stakes state testing. Each teacher who is administering a high stakes test (GEE or EOC) has been instructed to collect cell phones, MP3 players, or any other technological device with imaging or text-messaging capabilities. These devices will be placed in zip-lock bags which will be pre-labeled with students’ names. They will then be placed in a container and locked in a filing cabinet or cabinet. Students will be asked to initial that they have turned in a device and that they have had the device returned to them. Devices will be returned at the conclusion of the testing period. Students will not receive any consequences for being in possession of these devices.

Students may begin registering for the PSAT.  The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).  It is a standardized test that gives students a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.  The exam will be given on campus on October 15. Students are required to register for the exam by August 26.  The cost for the exam is $14.  No late registration will be permitted.  To register for the exam, see Mr. Edwards in the counselor's suite.  For additional information, please contact Mr. Edwards.

We will be discussing upcoming activities and the Melissa Maggio Remembrance Run in September. Please bring $5 for the fee and we will discuss shirt designs and officers as well. Everyone is invited!!!!
