Over 125 parents, teachers and administrators gathered Saturday to watch their ninth graders battle it out for winner of the Cyber Discovery Camp. The students compete in the FINAL CYBER CHALLENGE — a robotics competition that would decide the overall winner of the second annual Cyber Discovery Camp hosted at Louisiana Tech University.  For a week, teams from area high schools — Airline, Benton, Byrd, Minden, North DeSoto, Parkway, and Southwood — had a unique opportunity to interact with college professors and become immersed in the world of cyberspace. Students participated in a dynamic, challenging and interactive camp curriculum consisting of hands-on labs, daily challenges, a cryptographic treasure hunt and evening film sessions. Mitch Downey’s Benton High football teams are on a roll
Varsity Football
Tuesday, 09 June 2009
Benton High’s Tigers have won or shared district football championships seven years in a row, including both of their first two years in Class 4A. In 16 years as Benton’s head coach, Mitch Downey has 141 victories and 51 losses, for a winning percentage of .734. His teams have a 61-14 (.813) record in the last six seasons. In two of those seasons (2005, 2007), Downey was selected “Coach of the Year” by the Louisiana Sports Writers’ Association. Downey, who also earned the award in 1999, is the only Caddo-Bossier football coach to win the award three times. Lee Hedges is the only other local coach who won it twice (at Woodlawn in 1965 and Capt. Shreve in 1973). Read the full article at BossierPress.com...
